Sep 3 Math Team practice Recap

Great meeting yesterday.

Growth mindset: Some math problems are easier than others, but there will always be math teams problems that are difficult and beyond your current skill level. The goal is to challenge yourself with the problems that are currently too hard, so that in the future, you can conquer the challenges that were too hard today.

Group emails and attachments are also on ojhmathteam.org. ojhmathteam.org also has flash cards and links to resources.

The problems (and solutions) we did during practice (Warm up 1) and the Bonus Learning (2018 MathCounts Chapter Sprint Round) are attached. To get credit for the bonus learning, you only need to attempt problems 1-10. You need to underline what the question is asking, and you need to show your work. I’m including the solutions, so just writing down answers doesn’t demonstrate that you learned anything. Also, I don’t check if the answers are correct, because I assume you already did that and tried to understand the questions that challenged you. (I included all 30 questions in case you want to do more and so you can see what kinds of questions mathcounts asks.)

If you get credit for bonus work, you receive candy and bonus points. 6 of our 16 spots for MathCounts will be determined by bonus points.

Next week, we will do some more math and learn about the “underline the question” strategy.
