Team,

It was a great year. You are awesome. I’ve attached the slides we looked over on Wednesday. I added a slide with information about OHS Math Club.

Almost all of the accomplishments in the attached slides are the best we’ve ever done. (We definitely ate more pizza than previous years.) It was an amazing year, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as Coach Rob and I did.

This is the 4th year we’ve had an OJH Math Team. I think this year was a turning point for the team. We found a routine for practices that worked. We had student coaches for the first time, and they were awesome. We crushed the Dayton Chapter MathCounts competition. Our A team won, we had 5 people in the Countdown Round, and 11 people in the top 25%. Additionally, if MathCounts scored B teams, they would have finished 3rd or 4th. That means, if all 4 members of the A team got lost on the way to Chapter MathCounts and we moved the B team to the A team, we still would have qualified for the state competition. Seven people qualified for the State competition, which is incredible. At State MathCounts, our team finished 8th (out of 151 Ohio teams). We had the 3rd highest team round score.

In my mind, this is the year we established a standard of excellence for our team. We have shown that Oakwood is capable of qualifying a team for state, every year, from now on. In future years, earning a spot on the Oakwood team will essentially be a ticket to the state competition. You have helped build that. I hope you will continue to be a part of the team in the future to help transform that standard of excellence into an enduring culture of excellence.

I encourage you to join the classroom now, while you are thinking about it.

Mark your calendars: they are targeting Feb 6, 2027 for Dayton MathCounts at Wright State.

Take care,
Coach Ben
