Math Team – Winter Break and Exams

Team,

We will not meet for the next 3 weeks (due to exams and winter break). Our practice schedule through February is pasted at the bottom of this email. If you are going to miss any of the competitions and want to participate, tell me in advance, and I’ll do my best to find another time for you to take it. If you are home from school sick that day, email me in the morning.

Bonus work:
Last Wednesday, I handed out the bonus work for January (The full 2024 Chapter MathCounts competition). I gave it to you all at once so you can work on it over winter break, if you choose to. When completing the bonus work, if you get stuck, even after looking at the solution, I recommend hand copying down the full solution.

The due dates for the bonus work are:

7-Jan-26	2024 Chapter Sprint 1-15
14-Jan-26	2024 Chapter Sprint 16-30
21-Jan-26	2024 Chapter Target
28-Jan-26	2024 Chapter team

If you get it done early, you can turn it in early.

Qualifying for Dayton Chapter MathCounts:
The competitions we do during practice on 14 and 21 January will be used to determine the MathCounts team. The last opportunity to turn in bonus work to earn a spot for MathCounts attendance is 21 Jan 2026.
The attached “Description of Math Competitions and Bonus work 2026.docx” explains how the teams will be chosen for Dayton Chapter MathCounts.

MathCounts Trainer
If anyone goes up 3 or more levels in the MathCounts trainer (aops.com/mc), in addition to the usual reward, you can choose a full-size candybar.
